Dalavil lies in the lower (western) end
of Glean Meadonach in Sleat, in southern Skye.
This bottom end of the glen also contains the beautiful and
atmospheric Dalavil Wood
which lies along the northern shore of Loch a' Glinne. The loch is
thickly fringed with
reeds, and in summer huge rafts of water-lilies float choke much of
the surface. The loch
is home to many species of duck, water-fowl and swans including rare
whooper swans.
Dalavil Wood is a glorious mix of many of the Highlands native tree
species - pine, oak,
rowan, birch and holly, as well as beech and elm. The wood and loch
are together a Site
of Special Scientific Interest, protected from sheep and deer by a
high perimeter fence.
The houses lie in two groups, east and west of the wood.
